Observances scheduled for Memorial Day

Taps will play across Floyd County during Monday as the nation observes Memorial Day, and Charles City residents will have several services available to attend. After early-morning ceremonies at the local cemeteries, area residents are invited to the Floyd County Courthouse for a 10 a.m. service outside the county war memorial; the Charles City High School band will be accompanying the service. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the service will be moved to the V.F.W.

Other memorials:

— Patriotic Service, 7:30 a.m. V.F.W., American Legion, Auxiliary, AMVETS will meet at respective post homes for service.

— American Legion, Auxiliary Memorial Service, 8 a.m., Riverside Memorial Gardens.

— V.F.W., Auxiliary, AMVETS Memorial Service, 8 a.m., Sunnyside Cemetery.

— American Legion, Auxiliary Memorial Service, 8:30 a.m., Walking Bridge Cemetery.

— V.F.W., Auxiliary, AMVETS Memorial Service, 8:30 a.m., Calvary Cemetery.

— Coffee and rolls at American Legion Post for all who participate with Memorial Services, 9 a.m.

— Nora Springs: 9:15 a.m. gathering at the city Veterans Memorial. Attendees will visit Park Cemetery, Rock Grove Cemetery and Spring Grove Cemetery for memorials. The group will then return to the Veterans memorial and dedicate a new plaque for Gold Star mothers in Nora Springs. Hosted by American Legion.
