North Cedar Terrace to renovate for ADA compliance

Contractor work to update the North Cedar Terrace apartments will begin by the end of January, said Heidi Nielsen, executive director of Charles City Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

The bathrooms and kitchens of eight units will be renovated to stay in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project is expected to be finished by March 1, Nielsen told the Charles City Council Monday night.

Watertight Construction, Inc. of Charles City is contracted to the amount of $83,950 to complete the work.

Appointments

The council greeted 2016 with a list appointments to settle on Monday night, securing about a dozen board and commission membership for the year. The council approved a list of names submitted by Mayor Jim Erb for service terms, including boards such as the Floyd County Ambulance Commission, Electrical Trade Advisory Board and the Broadband Telecom Commission. Council members also approved their continued service, which varies from seven to ten different boards as liaisons or officials. Mayor Erb is listed as serving on 23 entities at the city, county and state level.
