Floyd County Sheriff’s Office seeks support for reserve unit

To the Press

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is aiming to raise funds for its reserve deputy program and is reaching out to businesses and residents of Floyd County for support.

The reserve program currently has five members who volunteer time without compensation.

The reserve deputies are trained and certified and perform alongside full-time deputies in the day to day activities of law enforcement in Floyd County, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The reserve deputies’ services are also called upon when assistance is needed in surrounding counties.

The Sheriff’s Office pays for certification, medical, some uniforms and training, but the reserves purchase most of their own gear.

The fund for the reserve program is nearly depleted with the recent addition of three new reserves. The Sheriff’s Office wants to continue offering training and would like to take some of the financial burden off the reserves by being able to purchase some gear when needed.

All donations received will go toward the reserve unit by funding their training, gear and future reserve deputies.

“We would greatly appreciate your donation to help fund this great program,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Reserves are an essential part of the Sheriff’s Office.”

The Reserve Unit and Sheriff’s Office will host a spaghetti supper fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Elks Lodge, 2111 Clark St., Charles City. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance.

For more information, to make a donation or for tickets, call the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office at 641-228-1821. Tickets may also be purchased at First Security Bank & Trust, Charles City, by contacting Heather Miller.
