Ellen Darby

Ellen Darby, 90, of Charles City, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Ellen Darby will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Bill Odermann from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Ellen Lorrain Darby, the daughter of Clarence and Katie (Sutter) Darby, was born Jan. 2, 1926 in Plainfield. She was raised on the family farm with her four brothers near Plainfield. Ellen graduated in 1944 from Greene High School in Greene.

Ellen enjoyed playing piano, especially hymns, and listening to music. Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Chautauqua Guest Homes for the loving care Ellen was given over the past 17 years.

Living family members include one brother, Raymond Darby of Redlands, Calif.; sister-in-law, Colleen A. Darby of Sarasota, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Lynda Ozinga, Susan Bullinga, Kenneth Darby, Russell Darby, Cathy Darby, Doug Darby and Tricia Staff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: David and wife Geneva, Ervin and wife Ella and LeRoy Darby; niece, Sandra Darby; and nephew, Richard Darby.
