Phyllis MajewskiGREENE — Phyllis Majewski, 87, of Greene passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Valley View Care Center in Greene. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greene with the Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan presiding.

Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 1 at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. 1st St., Greene, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Phyllis Majewski Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 219, Greene, IA 50636.

Phyllis Jean (MacLennan) Majewski was born May 12, 1928, in rural Greene, the daughter of Dewey and Orpha (Reed) MacLennan. She received her education in country schools around Marble Rock and Greene. In 1939 her family moved into Greene and she graduated from Greene High School in 1946.

On Dec. 27, 1947, Phyllis was united in marriage to Lewis Majewski at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene. To this union three sons were born, Michael Lewis, Jack Allan and Jay Phillip.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a Catholic Daughter of the Americas, a member of St. Jude’s Circle, taught C.C.D. Class for six years, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and P.E.O. She was very proud to have served on her local election board for a number of years. Phyllis was a very kind person, well respected in her community, and will be missed.

Phyllis loved having her family for dinner, baking cookies for the grandchildren, attending their activities, and playing bridge.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 68 years, Lewis, sons: Michael (Vicki) Majewski, Jack (Colleen); Jay (Theresa), all of Greene; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister, Pat (Jim) Burnell, Phoenix, Ariz.; Brother, Ed (Diana) MacLennan, Raymond; and sister-in-law, Berdine Majewski, Charles City.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Glen Truex; and brother, James (Betty) MacLennan.
