Patricia ‘Pat’ LaBarge

Patricia “Pat” LaBarge, 80, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City with her loving family by her side.

A funeral service for Pat LaBarge will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

A visitation will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 5- 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Patricia June (Roethler) LaBarge, the daughter of Charlie and Sophie (Schroeder) Roethler, was born June 17, 1935 in Bassett. She received her education at the Rural Otto School through 8th grade, and then attended Charles City High School, graduating in 1954. Pat was united in marriage to Roland S. LaBarge on June 6, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple moved to Charles City in 1959, where they raised their family. Pat was a cook her entire working career at the Dutch Oven Bakery, Club Iowa, Trowbridges, Maid-Rite, Bradford House, Elks Lodge (where she was co-manager) and Starr Home.

Pat was the recipient of many honors throughout her life including: Friend of Youth Award by the Class of 1954, Lifetime Athletic Pass, Friends of Athletes in 1996 and the Charles City Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 1996. She was involved with 4-H Club, was a PTA President, Girl Scout Leader and a Charles City Park Board President. Pat was very proud of being the founder of the Charles City Little League Softball Program which she served on the board for several years and coached for 33 years.

Pat enjoyed cooking, especially potato salad, pies and cookies. She played several years for the Bassett Softball Team and attended as many Charles City Comets sporting events as possible. Pat liked to play 500 with everyone, work in the garden and dabble in genealogy, but she loved spending time with her family and many friends the most.

Living family members include her four children: Jackie (Keith) Vickerman, Brad (Kayla) LaBarge, Tim (Wendy) La-Barge, all of Charles City and Stacy (Amy) LaBarge of Bettendorf; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Vickerman (Ramala Shelton), Andrew (Jodee) Vickerman, Megan (Logan) O’Brien, Shannon (Ryan) Venz, Kyle (Megan) LaBarge, Tyler LaBarge (special friend Katie Wolfe), Kelby LaBarge, Derek LaBarge and Cory LaBarge; eight great-grandchildren: Savanah, Kirah, Devony, Aureah, Zarah, Drake, Kerrigan and Landon; sister, Joyce (Stan) Thompson of Murrieta, Calif.; brother, Jim (Arlene) Roethler of Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland in 1994; and sister, Judy Grant.
