Matilda Elizabeth (Til) Ott

MARBLE ROCK — Funeral services for Matilda Elizabeth (Til) Ott were held at 10:30 a.m., W20_J_Ott Obitednesday, March 15, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church in Greene, with the Rev. Ben Hartwig and Dr. Dan Brown officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene.

Matilda Elizabeth was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Charles City, to William and Ida Mae (Feldman) Love, and died on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

She received her education in public school graduating from Charles City High School in 1946. Matilda worked at the B & L Bakery, Oliver Corp. and Peerless Photo Company during her school years.

Matilda accepted the Lord as her Lord and Savior at Bethel Baptist Church in Marble Rock, at the age of 35. She became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greene on Dec. 6, 2009, where she had been attending for many years.

Matilda was united in marriage on Sept. 15, 1946, to Harold Eugene Ott at the Methodist Parsonage in Charles City. This union was blessed with two sons, Jerry Lee and David Eugene.

She and her husband farmed west of Dougherty until 1949, when they moved to Charles City. In 1957, they moved to a farm east of Marble Rock; in 1966 to one to the west; then moved to town in 1980. In 1994, they moved to Florida, but in 2000, due to illness, the couple moved back to Iowa, settling in Nora Springs. They built their home in Marble Rock in 2003.

Matilda enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and baking for family and friends. She loved flowers, feeding and watching birds, and taking bus trips.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Jerry (Linda) Ott and Dave (Beth) Ott, all of Marble Rock; six grandchildren: Melissa (Delmer) Fenton ofRockford, Angela (Brian Keith) Ott of Marble Rock, Amy (Joshua) Anderson of St. Charles, Nathan (Carrie) Ott of Mason City, Kevin (Brooke) Ott of Waukee, and Cory Ott of Marble Rock; 19 great-grandchildren: Madison Fenton, Cole Fenton, Tyler Keith, Dylan Keith, Gabrielle Keith, Adriane Ott, Bria Ott, Calan Ott, Danika Ott, Michah Ott, Ayla Ott, Addison Ott, Haylie Ott, Lillie Ferguson, Madelyn Anderson, Noah Anderson, Isaiah Anderson and Ella Grace Anderson; sister, Marquerite Kratchmer of Spooner, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007; two great-grandsons: Jordan Fenton and Anthony Keith; her parents; and three sisters: Marie Kollmann, Wilma Lockhart and Ethel Jones.
