WAVERLY — Tuesday night the Charles City girls team headed south to Waverly-Shell Rock.  It was the tale of two teams heading into the game.

The Go-Hawks came into the game with a record of 17-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the NEIC.  Ranked 10th in class 4A, the Go-Hawks also came in having won 11 straight games.

Waverly leads the conference in both offensively average scoring  averaging 55.5 points and defensively holding teams to just 33.5 points.

Charles City knew heading into the game they would need to play one of their best games to stay with the power Go-Hawk team throughout the game.

Waverly came out of the locker room ready to push the ball up the court and apply defensive pressure all over the court.

Charles City struggled to handle the full-court pressure from Waverly which resulted in turnovers leading to easy baskets and a 39-12 Go-Hawks halftime lead

The second half of the game things the Comets were able to slow down the Go-Hawks’ offense, but couldn’t find ways to cut into their large lead.

At the end of the night, the Go-Hawks would win 65-26.

Jamie Sindlinger and Bailey Mitchell shared the leading scoring honors.  Both scored 8 points.  Mitchell shot an impressive 4-of-6 from the floor.

Other scorers for Charles City were Taylor Hoffman (5 points), Kelsi Crooks (4) and Megan Staudt (1).

Sindlinger led all Comet rebounders with eight, followed by Mitchell with six, Crooks with 4 and Gen Wandro with 2.

Coach Danielle Rippentrop was pleased with Mitchell’s game.

“Bailey started taking the ball to the hole and being more aggressive as the game went on,” Rippentrop said. “She also attacked the boards both offensively and defensively.  Especially in the 4th quarter.”

The girls will travel to Decorah on Friday night to wrap up the regular 2015-16 season.  Junior varsity will play at 6:15 p.m. with varsity to follow.
