Comets Salinas and Slinger, N-P’s Hyde make All-District baseball teams

Charles City senior Dylan Salinas and junior Colton Slinger were both selected to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association 2018 All-District Teams for the Northeast District in Class 3A.

Salinas was selected on the first team after leading the Comets in hits (36), doubles (15) and RBIs (31). Salinas also hit two home runs and had a .375 batting average.

As a catcher, Salinas threw out 11 would-be base-stealers. He also was effective on the mound with a 3-0 record and 1.47 earned run average. In less than 30 innings pitched, Salinas struck out 41.

Slinger was selected to the second team after leading the Comets in batting average (.378), on-base percentage (.521) and runs scored (28). While patrolling the outfield, Slinger didn’t make a single error this past season.

For the Northeast District in Class 1A, Nashua-Plainfield senior Mason Hyde was named to the first team.

Hyde led the Huskies in multiple offensive categories which included hits (35), doubles (12), home runs (6), RBIs (29), batting average (.461), slugging percentage (.855) and on-base percentage (.567).

Hyde also had a 5-2 pitching record with a 2.79 earned run average. In less than 48 innings pitched, Hyde struck out 73 and only walked 11.
