State runner-up Rockford lands players on all-district team

Eight members of the Rockford Warriors state runner-up football team were named to either the first or second team amid the 8-Player District 2 All-District Football selections.

Two other Warriors were named honorable mention, and Rockford had 10 named to the Academic All-District Team.

In addition to being named to the first team, Warrior senior quarterback Jacob Staudt was tabbed the district’s co-Offensive Player of the Year. Staudt rushed for 2,048 yards and scored a total 30 touchdowns. Staudt also passed for 19 touchdowns and completed more than 50 percent of his passes for 1,351 yards.

The other co-Offensive Player of the Year was Don Bosco’s Thomas Even who rushed for 1,500 yards and scored 34 touchdowns. Even played briefly in the Dons’ quarterfinal loss to the Warriors before getting injured after catching a short pass early in the game.

Other Rockford first-teamers included senior running back/receiver Dillon Schriever, who led the Warriors with 809 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches to go with 11 rushing TDs; senior running back Kaden Lyman, who rushed for 1,235 yards and scored 21 TDs; senior linebacker Weston Schmit, who recorded 100 solo tackles; senior linebacker Matthew Muller, who led the team in fumble recoveries and was second among the Warriors in tackles; and senior linebacker Blake Farr, who had a team-leading 12 solo tackles for losses.

Rockford’s second-teamers included junior offensive lineman Nathan Muller, and sophomore offensive lineman Zach Ott, who scored his lone touchdown of his high school career when returning a fumble during Rockford’s semifinal win over Southeast Warren.

Honorable mention selections for Rockford include junior tight end Brett Hansen, who was second on the team in receiving yards; and junior linebacker Gavin Reicks, who was among the Warriors’ QB sack leaders.

Rockford’s Academic All-District Team members include Hansen, Reicks, Staudt, Schmidt, Matthew Muller, Nathan Muller, John Fullerton, Cooper Kuhlemeier, Sawyer Salisbury and Jacob Titus.
