Lila Lea Dietrich
Lila Lea (Crooks) (Tynan) (Tynan) (Wall) Dietrich, 88, of Mason City, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center from complications of Covid-19.
A funeral service for Lila Dietrich will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Patty Kellogg officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and will continue one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.
Lila was born in New Hampton, Iowa at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Dec. 11, 1935, the daughter of Loyal Ward and Carol Lavina (Parson) Crooks. Lila grew up in rural Ionia/Nashua, Iowa and graduated from Nashua High School in 1954.
On Sept. 7, 1954, she married Jerald Edward “Jimmy” Tynan. Jimmy was killed in a car accident approximately four months after they were married on Jan. 1, 1955. Lila and her unborn child, Daniel James Tynan survived the accident.
On Aug. 14, 1955, she married Darrell Dean “Dean” Tynan. They had three children during their marriage, Dennis, Janice, and Steven. Dean also raised his brother Jerald’s “Jimmy” son Daniel James “Jim” Tynan.
Lila was a stay-at-home housewife. She also was very active being a Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, and helping run the Faith Bible Chapel Youth Group. Dean and Lila divorced in 1974.
On Dec. 11, 1976, she married Robert Jackson “Bob” Wall. Bob passed away, December 20, 1984 while they were living in Missouri.
On Aug. 21, 1992, she married Leonard Paul Dietrich at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, Iowa. They lived on the farm where Leonard was born outside of Manly and he raised his ten children with his first wife. They wintered in Phoenix, Arizona the first couple years but then Lila bought a trailer to winter in Texas for 18 years until Leonard pass away in Mission, Texas.
Lila loved to sing, dance, play card games and board games, camping, sewing, making jewelry, and just plain having fun being around people.
Lila is survived by her children: Daniel “Jim” (Sandy) Tynan of Bolingbrook, IL, Dennis (Virginia) Tynan of Charles City, Janice (Dean) Miller of Independence, and Steven (Lori) Tynan of Mason City; grandchildren: William Miller, Leon Meriset, Alex, Benjamin, James and Connor Tynan, Stacy (Adam) Campbell, Amy (John) Weishaar, Kelly, Kristina, and Amanda Tynan; great-grandchildren: Brody, Faith and Liberty Miller, Lucas Weishaar and Lillyan Campbell; and great-great-grandchild, Scarlett Miller; one sister, Pernella (Gerald) Monaghan; one brother, Clark (Mary) Crooks; and brother-in-law, Julius “Bud” Drewelow.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Jerald Tynan, Darrell “Dean” Tynan, Robert Wall, and Leonard Dietrich; her parents, Loyal and Carol Crooks; three sisters: Shirley Silber, Alice Barkhausen, and Sue Drewelow; and four brothers: Wendell, Russell, Roger, and Clayton Crooks.
