ROCKFORD — The Nashua-Plainfield boys and girls basketball teams found themselves in a bad place Monday night.

That would be the Rockford gymnasium.

The hosting Warriors took no prisoners while routing the Huskies in both ends of a varsity doubleheader.

Rockford girls team won the first game, 61-22, before the boys rolled in the latter, 74-24.

In the girls game, Madison McGregor scored all of her 15 points in the first half while helping the Warriors take an overwhelming 46-7 lead at intermission.

McGregor didn’t score in the second half, but still was a factor because that’s when she recorded all of her team-leading five assists.

Emma Staudt led Rockford with 17 points in just 16 minutes on the court — and a portion of that playing time was fast forwarded as the second half was played on a running clock. Staudt also had nine rebounds.

Sarah Parcher, Mackenzie Rooney and Morgan Thieman each had three steals for the Class 2A 13th ranked Warriors, who improved their record to 15-1 overall and 11-1 in the Top of Iowa-East Conference.

The Huskies (2-13, 1-11) did match the Warriors output in the second half — 15 points apiece. Abby Lumley was N-P’s lone double-figure scorer with 10 points.

The boys game was much of the same and then some as the Warriors took a 30-point lead at the half (45-15) before coming out and tightening the screws defensively even more in the third quarter where they limited the Huskies to 2 points.

Zach Bushbaum led a Warrior quartet of double-figure scorers with 18 points — all of which came from 6 of 10 3-point shooting.

Jared Marth and Alex Schriever each had 12 points, and Max Rooney scored 11 for Rockford (10-5, 7-4).

Kaden Lyman led the Warriors with 13 rebounds, and Schriever was credited with 11 assists. Jacob Staudt added five more assists for the Warriors, including a couple of nifty ones that helped break open the game early.

The first was a brilliant long-court pass to a lane-filling and finishing Marth, which put the Warriors up 20-8 in the first quarter. The second came when Staudt head-faked his defender off the floor giving him access to the paint and attracting Max Rooney’s defender away from the post.

Staudt then deftly fed the ball to Rooney, who made the easy uncontested layup which extended Rockford’s advantage to 39-11.

Dayton Hansen had 9 points to lead the Huskies (5-9, 4-8).

Don’t attribute the 50-point win to Rockford running up the score. The Warriors just never stopped hustling and playing defense.

That was best exemplified in the final seconds when all five of Rockford’s players went prone to the floor during a mad scramble for a wayward loose ball that neither team could control.
