Nashua set to celebrate Water Over the Dam Days

Organizers are hoping Nashua residents and a bevy of visitors will “come ashore and party some more at the big ole beach bash” during Water Over the Dam Days celebration that kicks off its four-day run today (Thursday).

This year’s annual celebration has four days packed full of fun for children of all ages.

Thursday evening will begin the celebration with kids night. The pedal tractor pull, games, and activities will be held on Main Street with the Princess/Prince contest beginning at 6 p.m.

The WODD Queen Contest will follow at 6:30 p.m. End the night with a movie at the Nashua Community Church or the Alex Potratz 5K Glow Run which will begin at the Husky Wellness Center.

Friday morning, the Nashua Town and Country Club will hold a four-person best shot golf tournament which will start at 9 a.m.

There will be supper served at the park by Nashua Community Church throughout the evening while many enjoy the Mud Run, Waterhawks Ski Show and County Line Drive Band.

Nub’s Catfish Tournament will begin at 8 p.m. and everyone can register at Nub’s Bait Shop on Main Street.

Saturday morning, the Nashua Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual breakfast at the park from 8 to 9:30 a.m. It’s a chance to load up on pancakes before heading out for the parade which starts at 10:30 a.m.

School tours will begin after the parade for those who would like to walk through the high school and remember the good old days.

The annual Nashua Fire Department Car Show, Ron Bilharz Jr. Memorial Horseshoe Tournament, Sand Volleyball Tournament, FFA Dunk Tank, Antique Tractor Show and the book sale at the Nashua Public Library all begin at noon Saturday.

Throughout the afternoon, children can enjoy inflatables and face painting while the parents and grandparents listen to the band Endless Summer. The Figure 8 Races will be held at the fairgrounds for those who want to watch the dust or mud fly at the race track.

North Iowa Tae Kwon Do will be demonstrating beginning at 5:15 p.m. with Stacy Bendickson leading the group.

The conclusion of the evening will be music from the Standing Hamptons with fireworks at 10 p.m.

The festival wraps up Sunday morning with a community church service in Cedar View Park.
