Flag disposal ceremony planned for Aug. 19

To The Press

An American Legion Flag Disposal Ceremony will be held on Monday, Aug. 19, to honorably dispose of any American flags that are no longer serviceable.

The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion building, 1108 5th St., Charles City, and the public is invited.

Anyone who has a U.S. flag that is torn, tattered, faded or otherwise no longer fit to be displayed can give it to any Legion or Legion Auxiliary member, or it can be put in the box on the north side of the Legion Building.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
