Alleged assault Saturday morning leads to standoff, arrest of Dallas Center man

Press Staff Report

An early morning assault with a weapon allegedly took place in Charles City early Saturday morning, according to the Charles City Police Department’s Facebook page.

Kaleb Wright, 26, of Dallas Center, was taken into custody and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

At 12:41 a.m. Saturday, CCPD officers responded to a call of an assault involving a firearm in an apartment located in the 100 block of 13th Avenue. Once officers were on scene, they found the victim, who was able to leave the apartment.

The suspect would not immediately surrender to authorities and a standoff ensued. The North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force-Special Operations Group (SOG) tactical team was then called in to assist local authorities. After several hours, Wright was taken into custody at 4:47 a.m.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and AMR (American Medical Response) also assisted in the matter.
