The arrival of autumn also marks the return of the “Wonder-Fall” business decorating contest put on by the Design Committee of Community Revitalization.

Charles City businesses are encouraged to dress up their storefronts with a fall or Halloween theme as a fun way to draw attention to their shops, as well as to give residents and visitors alike something fun to go look at in town, according to a press release from Community Revitalization.

The winner of the decorating contest will be decided by the public through Facebook at “Chuck Town: Charles City, Iowa” by going to the event page and clicking on “like” for your favorite storefront display.

Paper voting slips will also be available through the Community Development Office at 401 North Main St.

“Not only does this provide a little seasonal fun, it is a great reminder for our businesses on how important curb appeal and changing up window displays from time to time is,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks.

“No matter the business, if you never change up the look in front of your store to get people’s attention, they tend to stop noticing you when they go by,” he said.

Businesses interested in participating in the contest should create their display and let Community Revitalization know by Friday, Sept. 27. There is no fee for businesses to enter.

Wonder-Fall voting will take place Oct. 1-29, with the winner announced on Halloween and receiving bragging rights with the champion window cling.
