The Charles City Board of Education will hold a social gathering prior to Monday’s regular meeting to recognize incoming and outgoing members.

The event, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Elementary school lobby, followed by the regular school board meeting.

This will be an opportunity for the public to meet new school board members Pat Rottinghaus and Janiece Bergland, and thank outgoing members Robin Macomber and Jason Walker for their service on the school board.

There were two seats on the ballot in the election held earlier this month: Macomber’s, the current board president, who was seeking re-election, and Walker’s, who chose not to run again. Walker is currently board vice-president.

In a race of three candidates vying for the two open seats, Bergland and Rottinghaus each earned 35% of the vote, while Macomber earned 30%.

Bergland is a retired music teacher in the district and Rottinghaus is a retired Charles City school counselor.

At the meeting Monday following the reception, the current board will be asked to approve the official Abstract of Votes and official results from the Floyd County Board of Supervisors for the school election. Once approved, the retiring board will be adjourned, and newly-elected board members will take the oath of office.

Nominations will then be taken for the office of board president and vice-president, and the two officers will be elected and sworn in. New committee assignments will then be made to the board members. Reviews of policy for meetings will then be conducted, and the school board will then commence with its regular business agenda.
