Elementary students make fleece blankets, donate them to the police
To the Press
Students at Lincoln Elementary School in Charles City are not only applying the math skills they’re learning to make fleece blankets, they’re giving those blankets to a good cause.
Children who are in the class of fourth-grade teacher Bethany Jurrens will be donating the fleece blankets they’re learning to make in school to the Charles City Police Department. The police will keep the blankets on hand to help comfort kids — and sometimes adults — involved in emergencies.
The school district said the employees of JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores in Mason City personally took up a collection and donated their personal fabric when the store manager was approached about a possible fabric donation.
