A socially distant birthday celebration

The socially-distant birthday party was just getting started Saturday in the driveway of Linda Hughes of Charles City. A few friends of Hughes gathered in her driveway — with socially-accepted distancing — to surprise her. Pictured are Kate Campbell, Carl Jacob, Hughes, Susan Jacob and Judy Mulcahy. On the phone, via group “face chat,” were Hughes’s children and grandchildren. Reports that the photographer was bribed with delicious cake to withhold Hughes’s age were unconfirmed.
