Close to 100 kids and parents celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss Friday and Saturday with a round of golf at the Charles City Public Library.

The Cat in the Hat led the kids through the course.

Seuss, whose birth name was Theodore Geisel, had a birthday this past week, and the library and the Charles City Community Education Association commemorated the event with a mini-golf course that wound its way around the library, as well as guessing games for prizes and free books. Kids also received a make-and-take bag of snacks and crafts.

Families could sign up in advance for 30-minute time slots for a round of mini-golf and other fun.

“It was a compromise to get people in here and get them to participate without feeling like there would be crowds of people,” said library Director Annette Dean. “The library can be really fun, and we are still here, so check us out on Facebook and come back. We’re glad to have you.”
