For the first time in 15 months, the Charles City Arts Center will be holding a live reception Friday (today) for the featured artist.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the CCAC has been having online receptions via Facebook, and Director Emily Kiewel said she was very excited to be holding an in-person reception for Iowa City artist Jay Provorse.

The reception for Provorse — an abstract painter who uses unconventional methods — will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and refreshments will be served. The public is welcome to attend, although the CCAC requests that anyone who hasn’t received the COVID-19 vaccine wear a mask.

Provorse, who also draws mazes, will be there for the reception and talk with art patrons about his work. Some of his work can be viewed on his Facebook page.

The CCAC has also been recently collaborating with the Charles City Public Library with the library’s “Teen Tuesdays” program. Local artist Karl Haglund helped about 17 teenagers create paintings that will be installed in the new Teen Space at the library.

The CCAC is also still holding kid’s classes on Saturdays, taught by Meredith Hamm. Her next sessions ares July 10, 17 and 24, from 10 a.m. until noon.
