After a year without, people came back.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Charles City on Saturday morning for the 2021 Independence Day Parade, which traveled from the staging area on 13th Avenue to Main Street and proceeded southwest down North Main to Riverside Drive.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the parade and most of the other Fourth of July festivities to be called off last year, but this year the celebration returned in full force.

Trophies for parade exhibits were awarded in six categories — best commercial/business entry went to Cambrex, best organization/non-profit entry went to Immaculate Conception School, best open class entry went to Bob Legel Circus Wagons, best antique vehicle went to the National 19th Amendment Society, the Chamber Choice award went to the Charles City Rotary Club and the Mayor’s Choice award went to Sew That.
