Charles City Municipal Band moves concert inside

Rainy weather moved the event inside, but about 75 people enjoyed the Charles City Municipal Band’s first concert of the summer Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The group of local volunteer musicians was under the direction of Charles City High School Director of Bands Jake Gassman, who called the show “an evening of marches and classic concert band literature.” The concert was scheduled to take place outdoors in Central Park in Charles City, but a steady drizzle Sunday forced the band inside.

The band will present two more concerts in the coming weeks, on Sunday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Central Park, and Sunday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. behind the library as a lead up to the community’s fireworks celebration. The band will be rehearsing on Wednesdays each week for the month of June in the CCHS band room, and all musicians are welcome. Rehearsals start at 7:30 p.m.
