The stage is set and the cast is costumed as the Stony Point Players get ready to present their live performance of “Beauty and the Beast.”
Premiering at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 30, at the Charles Theatre, the community drama group will perform all weekend, with additional show times at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 1 and an afternoon performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 2.
Tickets are available online or at the door.
Originally planned to be performed in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic, the community theater group decided to take another shot at performing “Beauty and the Beast” when a first option for a summer play fell through earlier this year.
“The community was very excited about it,” said Director Cassidy Allison.
The cast and crew of about 50 people have been working since April, rehearsing their parts, creating costumes and set decorations and working with the pit orchestra, which will provide live music to accompany the songs.
“It’s awesome to work with a ton of talented instrumentalists in the pit,” said Music Director Gail Allison.
Cassidy Allison and mother, Gail, said they are thankful for all the community support that has helped bring the play to the stage, but are especially appreciative of Michelle Grob and Derek Sturtevant, who have both been heavily involved in the community (and high school) theater and are moving on from Charles City this year.
“We appreciate everybody that has been involved,” said Gail Allison.
