Today is the last day to file nomination papers to run in the primary election for Floyd County offices.

Nominations to run in the June 4 primary for the Republican, Democratic or Libertarian parties are due in the Floyd County Auditor’s office by 5 p.m. today, Friday.

As of Thursday afternoon, three people had submitted nomination papers, according to the Floyd County Auditor’s Office.

Election Clerk Jennifer Bauer said that two people had filed for the auditor’s race, one for each major party.

Liz Hamm of Charles City has filed to seek the Democratic nomination for county auditor, and Morrigan Miller of Charles City has filed to seek the Republican nomination for county auditor.

The auditor position will become vacant at the end of this year, as the current auditor, Gloria Carr, has announced she will retire from the position at the end of her current term.

The other person who has submitted nomination papers as of Thursday afternoon is Todd Prichard, who is currently the Floyd County attorney after having been appointed to that position to replace the previous county attorney who left for another job.

Prichard is running for the Democratic nomination for county attorney to fill the vacancy and serve the remaining two years left in the current term.

Other positions that will be on the ballot for the Nov. 5 general election are supervisor for District 1, supervisor for District 3 to fill the last two years of a vacancy that was filled by appointment, and county sheriff.

District 1 Supervisor Mark Kuhn has said he will not seek re-election, and Supervisor Jim Jorgensen, who was appointed to represent District 3, has also said he will not run for the office.

There is still a chance to run for the two supervisors positions, auditor, attorney and sheriff if papers aren’t filed for the primary election.

Persons running as “no office” or as a member of a non-party political organization (NPPO) can file nomination papers for the general election from Aug. 5 to Aug. 28 at the county auditor’s office.
