Cheesesteak giveaway in Charles City

Sandwich fans willing to brave the spring snow got a special treat on Sunday as All About Cheesesteaks celebrated “National Cheesesteak Day” with a free sandwich giveaway.

While normally closed on Sundays, All About Cheesesteaks owner Joe Low found out that March 24 is recognized as National Cheesesteak Day and decided to open up his store for a special promotion.

“I figured for one hour we’d give away some cheesesteaks,” said Low. “It’s the least we can do for our regulars.”

After getting the word out through social media, starting at 5 p.m. All About Cheesesteaks opened its doors to a crowd of people lining up for a free 6-inch sandwich. With a steady pace of people coming in throughout the event, the store gave out 62 cheesesteaks in 60 minutes to hungry customers.

“It’s been fun,” said Low. “We just appreciate the people that show up.”
