LOCAL NOTES ‘Celebrate the Season’ event set for Dec. 13

The First Congregational Church of Charles City will celebrate the Christmas Season with a musical concert on Dec.

13 at 3 p.m.

“Celebrate the Season” is open to the public and will feature local and other performers including: members of Endless Summer; a twopiece brass ensemble from Wartburg College in Waverly; the Chamber Singers Choral Group from the Charles City High School; and a duet from the Riverland Community College Vocal Department in Austin, Minn.

The program will conclude with an organ solo by Scott Blankenbaker, vocal instructor at Riverland Community College, with congregational singing.

Special hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served following the concert. The church is located at 502 N.

Jackson St., Charles City. All are welcome.

Festival of Trees taking place this month

The annual Charles City Festival of Trees will take place at Otto’s Oasis from Nov. 27 through Dec. 30. Multiple non-profit organizations have decorated trees promoting their organizations. The public is invited to view the trees and “vote” for their favorites by placing monetary donations in containers located under each tree. All money donated at each tree will stay with that specific organization. This is a great way to assist these local organizations during the holiday season.

Help spread some Holiday Cheer

Dozens of families have signed up for the Holiday Cheer program this year.

If you, your business, or organization would like to help make the holiday season brighter by assisting a family in need, stop by the Chamber office at 401 N. Main St. to look through the completed applications. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m to 5 p.m., or call 641-228-4234 if you would like more information.

Join together to make the holidays joyous for area families in need.

Gifts must be returned to our office by December 14th, to ensure delivery before Christmas.
