Roy Eugene Franke, the son of George and Myrtle (Vestal) Franke, was born May 10, 1926 on the family farm near Powersville, Iowa in Floyd County. He was educated in country schools (Floyd and Butler County) and graduated from Greene High School.

Roy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Harriet Lavon Shultz on Jan. 28, 1945 in San Diego, California. In his retirement, Roy worked part-time at Hauser Funeral Home for several years. He had been a member of the Charles City community since 1970, and was glad to help with so many of the families he had grown to know and love. Roy was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion and V.F.W. in Charles City. Roy received the Charles City Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year” award in 1996. He volunteered many hours with Hospice of North Iowa, at the church, with Floyd County Volunteers, at the Floyd County Medical Center and was a proud blood donor with seven gallons to his credit.

Roy enjoyed golfing, fishing, collecting John Deere tractors and shopping for antiques. He also loved spending quality time with his family.
