Helen M. Schmidt, 100, of Charles City, died Thursday at Bartles Care Center, in Waverly

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main, Charles City. Officiating will be Rev. Russ Leeper. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home 401 Blunt and again one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Helen was born in Butler County the daughter of Ernest Louis Mike and Clara Dorthea (Witt) Litterer on June 24, 1923. She graduated from 8th grade which was normal for that time. She was united in marriage to Willis D. Schmidt on June 22, 1944 at her parents’ home in Nashua. She cleaned homes with her sister for over 40 years and also for five years was a fry cook at Club Iowa. She tended her huge vegetable and flower gardens canning many items for the family and friends. She loved camping, Blue Grass Festivals, all the family get togethers for holidays and family events. When she slowed down some she enjoyed her grand and great grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed many vacations together with the kids. She became quite good at doing needle work of various types. Helen always saw the good in others. When she entered Bartles she blossomed and stood ready to always help others.

Those blessed by Helen in her live were her surviving three children, Beverly and her husband Elmer Reints, Shell Rock, Gloria Hulbert, Charles City, Gary and his wife Cathy Schmidt, Marble Rock, Sister Leona Howe, Charles City, Ruby and her husband Robert Obermier, Greene, sister-in-law Tileen Litterer, Charles City, seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Willis of 65 years, in 2009, son Bryan in infancy, Brother Clarence Litterer, son-in-law Jack Hulbert, and Brother-in-Law Clarence Schmidt and sister Dorothy Schmidt.
