Letter to the Editor — Disappointed with school board

By Kelvin Keifer, Charles City

I would like to express my disappointment with the Charles City Community School District Board of Directors. They conducted a special meeting on Monday, May 24, at the Floyd Community Center to discuss the superintendent’s proposal to eliminate the Industrial Technology teaching position at the High School.

The current teacher in this position invited me and 11 other community representatives to testify before the board in support of continuing to offer this program to our students.

Only four of us were allowed give our testimony before the board decided to act on the proposal. The proposal was accepted and the teacher is out of a job.

I expect this board of directors to respect the efforts of myself and the others in attendance and allow us to express our opinion on this matter. They are elected to represent their constituents.
