CHARLES CITY — With the threat of a storm rolling into the area sometime during the evening, Charles City’s home varsity baseball game against Northeast Iowa Conference rival Crestwood was moved up to 5:30 p.m.

The game managed to get in before the pending rain, but the Cadets couldn’t escape the early thunder from the Comets’ lineup as the hosts rallied for 6 runs in the first inning and 4 runs in the second before winning, 10-2.

After scoring 22 runs in four innings against MFL MarMac in their last game, the Comets had 6 runs on the board against the Cadets before they got their first out.

The win improved Charles City’s record to 2-1 and 1-0 in the NEIC.

Cole Reams had two hits, including a double; and Dylan Salinas and Jace Cajhami each had two hits for the Comets, who also got 2-RBI outputs from Theo Arndt and Wyatt Stevenson.

Arndt got the win on the mound after holding the Cadets hitless through four innings while striking out seven and walking just one.

Elliott Sinwell pitched three innings of relief while striking out two and giving up two hits. The 2 runs scored off him were unearned.

Ben Miller stole three bases and scored 2 runs for the Comets, who will try to stay hot in a non-conference game Wednesday at Turkey Valley.
