The Iowa Girls Coaches Association honored several Charles City bowlers and a Comet coach when releasing its All-District and All-State bowling teams last week.

Senior Claire Girkin, who recently tied for fifth at the Class 1A State Girls Individual Tournament after placing fourth at state the year before, was named to the IGCA’s Class 1A Girls All-State Second Team.

Girkin also was named to the IGCA’s Class 1A Central District First Team with teammates Isabell Crawford and Payton Hadley.

Hadley, a junior, was a state-qualifier who was 12 pins shy in the preliminary three-game series round of advancing to the top-eight championship bracket.

Charles City junior Isabell Crawford, who often was the Comets’ anchorman during the season, was an individual state-qualifier and fifth-place medalist last season.

Casey Brandau, who took over the Charles City’s girls team this season and led the Comets to a sixth-place showing at the Class 1A State Girls Team Tournament as well as having four of her bowlers — Girkin, Hadley, Darian Hesse and Kinleigh Bahe — qualify as individuals, was named the Central District Girls “Coach of the Year”.

Charles City freshman Noah White, who placed runner-up in the Class 1A State Boys Individual Tournament, was named to IGCA’s Class 1A Boys Central District Second Team.

Sophomore Sullivan Gerleman, who helped the Comet boys place sixth at the state tournament, was also named to the Boys Central District Second Team.
