Richard Glass

Richard Glass, age 74 of Rockford, IA, passed away on Wed., Aug. 23, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

Richard David Glass was born on Sept. 26, 1945, to parents Thomas and Ella (Swenson) Glass in Carroll, IA. He was baptized as an infant at the Country Lutheran Church in Soldier, IA, and later confirmed his faith in 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City, IA. Richard grew up on a farm southwest of Sac City, attending Jackson #7 Country School and then graduating from Sac City High School with the class of 1964. During high school Richard did a lot of singing in small groups and as a soloist, winning many awards at contest. After graduation, he attended college, majoring as a machinist with an ASC certificate.

On July 3, 1971, Richard was united in marriage to Judeth Ann Springer in Glenville, MN. This union was blessed with two sons, Robbie and Michael. Richard lived in many places throughout his life, including South Dakota, Las Vegas, Des Moines, Charles City and ending up in Rockford, IA. He worked in Mason City, IA, at Berry Machine as a machinist until his retirement in 2016. He was a very talented mechanic and got to work on old automobiles and tractor motors from before World War II. Richard spent a lot of time working in his shop and loved talking about and showing pictures of his Volkswagens and classic cars. You could find him at swap meets selling and buying auto parts and watching Nascar races. His dream was to move back to Sac City and start a machinist shop to restore old cars.

The thing that brought Richard the greatest joy was his family. Richard cared for his wife at their home before her passing in 2014 and spent as much time as he could with her. He also loved his time spent with his grandson and took an active role in raising him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son Michael Glass of Rockford, IA; grandson Derek Glass of Mason City, IA; sister Norma Joanne (Duanne) Schramm of North Highland, CA; sister-in-law Freda (Dale) Meyer; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Judeth Ann Glass; son Robbie Glass; parents Thomas and Ella Glass; brother Thomas Larry Glass; nephew Thomas Daniel Glass; parents-in-law Donald and Carolyn Springer.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., Oct. 2, 2020, at Cory Grove Cemetery in rural Sac City, IA.
