Kristine Carol ‘Kris’ Lara

Kristine Carol “Kris” (Byers) Lara, 51, of Mason City, IA, passed away December 20th, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Rockwell, IA.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 at the Elks Lodge, 2111 Clark St, Charles City, IA 50616.

Kris was born April 30, 1971, in Charles City, IA; daughter of Roger Lloyd Byers and Kathryn Mae (Bass) Golly. She grew up in Charles City and graduated from high school there in 1990. She moved to Mason City in 1995. She met the love of her life Sergio Lara Sr. in 1996. They married in December of 1998. While she had a number of jobs over the years; her children were always the center of her world. She would always do anything she could for her children.

Kris was a passionate cook and baker. She especially loved to make chili and giant blueberry muffins. Kris was a grill master and always loved to cook over a fire. She always endeavored to keep her home clean and have a meal ready when her family got home. In her spare time she also loved to watch the Green Bay Packers and spend time with her family. She was always on the go and enjoyed driving and listening to music.

Kris is survived by her husband, Sergio; children, Paige Byers, Kayla (Daniel) Silva, Sergio Lara Jr.; grandchildren, Liam, Vera, and Maria; mother, Kathryn (Kenneth) Golly; siblings, Kimberly (Curt) Joerger, Lance (Renae) Golly, Lisa (David) Guy, Jason (Erin) Golly; uncles, Mike (Connie) Bass, Duane (Sharon) Byers, and Tony (Chris) Byers, and many beloved other extended family.

Kris was preceded in death by her father, Roger (Wanda) Byers; maternal grandparents, Bernice Dugan and John Bass; paternal grandparents, Robert (Ida) Byers; grandparents Robert (Charlotte) Golly; special aunt, Evelyn (Jim) Rogers; and uncles, Jerry Bass, Mike Byers, and Dennis Byers.
