Maynard “Mike” Clayton Ewald passed away at the age of 93 on Jan. 4, 2023, under the care of MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation at Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 West Main Ave., Rockford, IA. Burial will follow at the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock, IA.

Mike was born during a blizzard on Feb. 4, 1929, to Edgar and Ruth (Thomas) Ewald. He was educated at the Marble Rock High School, graduating in 1946. He excelled at sports and was active in the school band.

Mike and three of his friends, Morris Lines, Jerry Ives, and Bob Murray enlisted in the Navy in 1950. They began basic training at the Naval Station of Great Lakes. It was there, Mike found his wife, Maxine (DeBok) Ewald. The couple was married on Nov. 22, 1952 and celebrated 70 years of marriage together. To their union, two children, Michael and Cristal were born. Mike was a proud life-long farmer, never officially wanting to “retire.”

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Maxine; daughter, Cristal; granddaughter, Melissa; two cousins of his generation, Marlys Reynolds and Max Handley in addition to many cousins of subsequent generations.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; parents and siblings.
