Charles City public safety and emergency responder crews remember 9/11

People across the county paused Wednesday to remember that day 18 years ago when the United States suffered its worst terror attack in history.

Firefighters, emergency services personnel and law enforcement members, especially, made efforts to remember the event, and the part their comrades played in the response.

In Charles City, the Charles City Fire Department raised a U.S. flag Wednesday morning on its aerial truck.

“In a small gesture of our remembrance of the tragic events and deaths of thousands of people in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including 343 FDNY Firefighters, we set up our flag with our aerial,” the department reported on its Facebook page.

“Special thanks to CCFD Firefighter Darien Uetz, and Lt. Jason Webster, Nashua Firefighter (and Charles City employee) Jake Johnson, CCPD Chief Hugh Anderson, and Captain Brandon Franke for getting the flag raised,” the post said.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorist-piloted planes slammed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
