Charles City High School announced Thursday that there will be a prom this year.

After missing the annual prom celebration last year due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has announced that prom will be held this year, on Saturday, April 24, at Comet Gym.

Pandemic precautions will be taken. Masks will be required for participants and audience members at the Grand March and dance. The district said that Floyd County Public Health has been consulted in the planning of prom and fully supports the COVID precautions being implemented for this event.

The prom court was also announced on Thursday, and consists of CCHS seniors Rylie Patrie, Ally Faulkner, Sadie Gebel, Toni Maloy, Kayla Kellogg, Aaron Jensen, Evan Bjelica, Zach Graeser, Cade Williams and DJ DeBoest.

Doors will open for the grand march at 6:30 p.m., and the grand march itself will commence at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the grand march will be $1, with proceeds going toward prom. After the grand march, the dance is scheduled to last until midnight, with post-prom activities from midnight to 4 a.m., also at Comet Gym. Students must check in to post-prom by 12:45 a.m.

Post-prom events will include food, beverages, games, a hypnotist, raffles, and a live auction from the winnings of the night. Post-prom is being coordinated by parents, and supported by community members and local businesses.
