Almost $113,000 in scholarships and awards were given to Charles City High School students at Senior Recognition Night last Wednesday evening, May 12.

There were 114 students’ names called for the 74 scholarships and awards, with 48 unique students receiving one or more awards or scholarships.

More than half of the students received multiple awards, with Sarah Mitchell leading that distinction with 10, followed by Lilly Usher with eight and Carl Ruzicka and Libbie McKeag with seven each.

Rylie Patrie received the largest single award, the Christina Hixson Opportunity Award, an $18,000 grant to Iowa State University, expected to cover half tuition for eight semesters. The award, one per Iowa county, is designed to demonstrate ISU’s commitment to student potential beyond the measures of class rank or standardized test scores.

The awards given at the recognition night and the students who received them are:

• AgVantage FS Scholarship to Cael Ruzika, Drew Staudt — $1,000 each, presented by Matt Kruse.

• Allan J. Hastings Scholarship to William Wilson — $1,500, presented by Sherril Hastings.

• American Citizenship Award to Sydney Ross — $300, presented by Ann Troge.

• American Legion Auxiliary to Lilly Usher — $3,000, presented by Mary Mooberry.

• Bill Burge Scholarship to Sarah Mitchell — $500, presented by Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer.

• Charles City Noon Kiwanis Scholarship Fund to Libbie McKeag — $500, presented by Tom Wickersham.

• Charles City Rotary Club Scholarship to Cael Ruzicka, Rylie Patrie — $1,000 each, presented by Ann Troge.

• Christina Hixson Opportunity Award to Rylie Patrie — $18,000, presented by Lesley Milius.

• Comet Jerry Scholarship to Caden Collins, Sadie Gebel — $1,000 each, presented by Sue Hartwell and Family.

• Cora Krueger Scholarship to Dani Stock, Nia Litterer, Zachary Graeser — $1,067 each, presented by Julie Versluis.
