Former Charles City resident Deb Cherio read her latest book, “The Lonely Sugar Plum,” and signed copies at two events last Thursday — a storytime at the Charles City Public Library in the morning and a book-signing at Prologue Books and Wine in the afternoon.
Cerio now lives in Boulder, Colorado, but grew up in Charles City after her parents moved here, graduating from Charles City High School in 1988. She lives in boulder with her husband, Andy, and their rescued pitbull, Benny
Cerio currently works in sales and marketing with a health care company, and said her interest in writing accelerated when she began taking English and writing classes at the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus.
“My professor encouraged my writing and through her mentoring and tutelage I have since published three books,” Cerio said.
“The Lonely Sugar Plum” challenges children to overcome their self-doubt and to recognize their own beauty, she said. “This is a book for children of all ages as we all need reminding that we are unique and beautiful in our own way.”
Cerio has previously published a non-fiction book entitled “The Absent Season,” which focuses on the hardships of those arrested and falsely accused in the justice system, and a second publication entitled “Bouquet,” an anthology of short fiction stories based on bartenders and their patrons.
