Immaculate Conception Elementary School held its first “IC in Color” 5K color run on Saturday, with hundreds of participants running a series of gauntlets where they were dusted with various bright colors that stuck to their clothes — and faces and hair and limbs.

The event was hosted by the IC Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), with Emily Stowe as chair and coordinator.

“There was a wonderful turnout, with 217 registrants,” said Stowe. “Without fundraising efforts like this, the PTO would not be able to provide extra activities for our students.”

IC Principal Laurie Fields said the event was “two years in the making,” having been postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stowe said it proved to be worth the wait, with “a beautiful day, gorgeous weather and a couple hundred smiling faces.”

The IC PTO includes parents, teachers and administrators who work together to educate and nurture the children of IC School, according to information from the school.

The event was sponsored by Special Medical Services Physical Therapy, Dead Level Plumbing and Heating, Daniel’s Auto Collision, Main Street Drug, Prologue Books & Wine, Mara, Cardigan, Mick Gauge Plumbing & Heating, S&S signs, Fareway, Hy-Vee and Snap Fitness.
