To The Press

April is National Volunteer Awareness Month and some of Charles City’s best volunteers will be honored Friday, April 12, at the annual Community Volunteer Recognition Event.

The event will include the presentation of the Chamber Person of the Year Award, Main Street Charles City Volunteer of the Year and the Hometown Hero Award.

Co-hosted by the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street Charles City program, this free event is open to all and will take place from 7:30-9 a.m.at the Charles City Community Center, located at 900 Hulin St.

There will be a light breakfast offered at 7:30 a.m., with the program to begin at 8 a.m.

“Our volunteers are what makes our community special and help get things done that otherwise might not,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks.

“They lend a hand because they care about Charles City and the people around them,” he said. “Big or small, they make a real difference in our town, and I encourage the public to come and help recognize them for what they do.”

Non-profit organizations in town, including the schools, will be honoring their volunteers of the year. Special “Caught in the Act” awards will also be presented to individuals who were nominated after being seen doing something unselfish for others or the community.

Past Man of the Year and Woman of the Year award recipients will also be recognized prior to the presentation of the 2024 Person of the Year Award.

Main Street Charles City will announce its Volunteer of the Year as well, while a Hometown Hero Award will be presented on behalf of Mayor Dean Andrews.
