Kids make a monster of a mess at the Charles City library

It was a dark and stormy day for a monstrous meal during the Charles City Public Library’s Get Messy program on Tuesday, April 16.
Braving the afternoon rain, kids flooded in to the library to get their hands messy making “Monster Cookie Balls.”
“We haven’t done a lot of food,” said children’s librarian Annette Dean. “It’s a great snack.”
Combining oats, peanut butter, honey and other ingredients, kids mixed and rolled the high-protein concoction into shapes to serve as both an activity and a treat.
The monster-themed program also included paper crafts, where kids were able to cut out and assemble their own paper creatures. After they washed their hands.
Next week’s program will feature an egg-citing activity as kids will partake in an egg drop using zip lines.
