Garry Brown

Garry Brown, 76, of Charles City, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A celebration of Garry’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Erik Hoefer officiating. A luncheon gathering will follow the service. Private interment will be at a later date.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Garry is forever loved, mourned and remembered by his amazing wife of 56 years, Carol, his daughters Gina (Scott) Phearman, Angela Sinnwell, Kelly (John) Powell, Shawna Davis (Daryl King), his grandchildren Ellyn Phearman (Christopher Schaupp), Alexander Phearman (Sophie Rubashkin), Anna Phearman, Dalton Schutjer, Jadyn Schutjer, Elliott Sinnwell (Marley Hagarty), Brooke Powell (Ian Ivens), Louis Powell, Jake Powell, Orion Davis, Alexis Davis, great granddaughter Cora Schaupp, his sister Betty (David) Holtz, Brother-in-laws Earl (Barb) Meerdink, Paul (Marian) Meerdink, Nieces and Nephews Debra (Bob) Hocking, Jonathan Jones, Christine Kennedy, Amy (Andy) Engberg, Joel (Carin) Meerdink, Elizabeth Meerdink, Tammy (Terry) Frascht, Troy Meerdink, and many great nieces and nephews.

Garry attended school in Osage and Charles City, graduating in 1965. While in high school, Garry met the love of his life, getting married to Carol at the Little Brown Church in 1965. Garry worked for White Farm Equipment and was a farrier for many years. Garry also co-owned Western Wilderness Saddle Shop. He had a real passion for anything horses, hunting or woodworking, but would tell you that his expertise was fixing things.

Garry was an integral part of many organizations and clubs, including acting as the Horse Superintendent for the Floyd County Fair, helping with all things horses for 4H and the Double C Saddle Club. Later, Garry and Carol enjoyed their Wednesday night car cruises with friends.

It was very rare for Garry to miss the countless activities of his grandkids. Whether it was sporting events, band/choir concerts, plays, super mileage competitions or graduations, grandpa was there cheering on his grandkids with unmatched enthusiasm.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Merna (Ritter) Brown and infant brother, Kieth; father-in-law, Floyd Meerdink; mother-in-law, Gladys Meerdink; brother-in-law, Dale Kinter; sister-in-law, Janet Meerdink; and niece, Laura Jones.
