Letter to the Editor: Carter – Gov. Reynolds should live by her words regarding eminent domain

By Kathy Carter, Rockford

In her Jan. 9 (annual Condition of the State address at the beginning of the new legislative session), Gov. Kim Reynolds stated:

“Iowans elected us to create and execute policies that carry out their will — not to outsource that authority to others they can’t hold accountable at the ballot box.

“While many boards and commissions will continue to play an important role, the democratic process is the best way to preserve Iowans’ engagement in their government.”

Does that include the will to NOT have to bow to eminent domain for private companies?

Does that include the “authority” of the Iowa Utilities Board, which Iowans “can’t hold accountable at the ballot box”?

Practice what you preach, governor.
