Abby Lumley leads Huskies with 8 points Tuesday night

Nashua-Plainfield had a trying time against Saint Ansgar on the road Tuesday night, that ended in a 55-19 loss.

Head coach Erik Smith said the Huskies executed their gameplan, but just came up short.

“We held their leading scorer, Kelsie Willert, to just five points, which is what we wanted to do,” Smith said. “We had some good runs, and got some good shots, we just couldn’t finish.” The Huskies have been to shut down teams’ leading scorers, but always seem to have another battle, whether it’s turnovers or shooting, that they have to deal with in the game. On Tuesday, the Huskies were only able to shoot 19 percent from the floor. Smith said there’s no way to win games by having that low of a shooting percentage.

The Huskies’ leading scorer, junior Abby Lumley, was a bright spot in the Huskies’ defeat.

With eight points and six rebounds, Smith said it was good to see Lumley’s style of offense taking mold.

“In the first half, she really attacked the basket,” Smith said. “She had three-straight possessions and three-straight buckets doing that. It was good to see her have that kind of game.”

The Huskies will host a tough Osage team on Dec. 18 at home. The Green Devils are coming off a hot shooting performance at North Butler, where they won by 18 points off of precise 3-point shooting.

That game begins at 6:15 p.m.
