Rahmiller honored by ITCA
Comet girls XC coach named Class 3A ‘At Large’ COY
Staff Report
Charles City girls cross country coach Amanda Rahmiller was honored by the Iowa Track Coaches Association when it announced its 2016 Cross Country Coach of the Year selections on Thursday.
Rahmiller was listed among the “At Large” coaches of the year for Class 3A. All award recipients were chosen by their coaching peers.
In the fourth year of leading the Comets, Rahmiller saw her team place third in its class at the State Cross Country Meet, a best-ever finish for the Charles City girls program.
The Comets previously won their state-qualifier meet — another first for the school — while beating eventual state champion Decorah on it home course.
One of Rahmiller’s senior runners, McKayla Cole, placed second at the state meet for her second-straight top-three, all-state finish.
After the state meet, three other Comet seniors — Alysha Bilharz, Bailey Mitchell and Sarah Turpen — helped the East squad beat the West squad at an Iowa all-star high school cross country race in Des Moines.
Rahmiller is also the assistant coach for the Charles City girls track team.
The Class 3A Coach of the Year is Cristy Nimrod of Decorah.
Other Class 3A “At Large” coaches of the year include Douglas Cutler of Pella, Steve Leach of North Polk, Dean Clasen of Humboldt and Kurt Bauermeister of Spencer.
