CC Men’s Basketball League champs ‘break’ scoreboard

CHARLES CITY — With a team name like “Half Buzzed, Half Bricks” you can only assume that when it comes to partying and basketball, its players are shooting 50 percent.
Problem was 50 percent shooting wasn’t good enough to match the efficiency of “Ballacaust” whom Half Buzzed, Half Bricks faced in the championship game of the Charles City Men’s Basketball League last Wednesday at the CC YMCA.
Ballacaust broke the scoreboard on way to winning 102-76.
Okay, they didn’t actually break the scoreboard which was a manual flip display. But it didn’t go to triple digits so the final read 02-76.
Exceeding a hundred points during 40 minutes of running clock play is a pretty mean feat. Granted, the game for the most part was up-and-down, uptempo, but the defense was far more inspired than your typical NBA All-Star Game.
Members of Ballacaust include Matt Ackerson, Zachary Bond, Cody Cordes, Dayton Hansen, Seth Harrington, Mitch Herold, Josh Shimak and Vincent VanRaden.
This was the second league organized at the YMCA by Dakotah Jones.
“The next basketball league we hope to have is a summer outdoor league at Sportsmen’s Park,” Jones said.
