Wendell Patten

Wendell Patten, 83, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of natural causes not related to COVID-19.

A private family service will be held at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 with burial following at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home before the service on Saturday. Those attending will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to please wear a face covering; thank you for your understanding.

Wendell Louis Patten, the son of Charles and Florence (Ersing) Patten, was born on Sept. 29, 1937 in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Donna Michael on Oct. 19, 1957.

Wendell was first employed at Ford Garage in Charles City and then in Jefferson. He then worked for White Farm for 29 years in the purchasing department as senior buyer until their closure. He then started Patten Painting. The restoration of his home that was built in 1902 was one project he took so much pride in. Wendell was a member of the Elks, Cedar Ridge Golf Course, and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was on the Board of Trustees. He took great pride in obtaining his private flying license and owning his own plane.

Living family members include his wife, Donna; children: Steven Patten and Renee (Scott) Hottovy; grandchildren: Benjamin, Tyson, Jacob, and Joshua Hottovy and Kelsi Patten; great grandchildren: Kolten, Kaylin, Jenessa, Jayla, Klayton, Jasper, Klaudia, Kimberly, and Levi Hottovy; siblings: Janice Monson, Kathy (Chuck) Kraut, and Kenneth (Joyce) Patten; sisters-in-law: Joanne Patten and Bev (Bert) Sorensen; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Robert Patten, Jeane Veigel, Ruth Demro, Mary Fisher, Patricia Suarez, Betty Patten, and Joan Patten; brothers-in-law, Carleton Veigel, Ronnie Demro, James Fisher, Pete Monson, and Richard Michael; parents-in-law, Cecil & Bernadine Michael; and grandson-in-law, Joey (Patten) Brennan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
