LETTER: Sheriff endorses Crooks to become new sheriff

By Rick Lynch, Floyd County sheriff

I am supporting and formally endorsing Chief Deputy Jeff Crooks for Floyd County sheriff. Crooks is the only candidate that has the knowlege and experience of how the Sheriff’s Office operates, but more importantly, he has the right personality and leadership quality that I believe the citizens of Floyd County need.

I have known Chief Deputy Crooks for my entire life, and have seen his success in life. He was a stand-out athlete in high school, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree and became a successful teacher and coach at Pleasant Valley High School. Then, after eight years of teaching and coaching, he had the opportunity to become a partner in a business, which would allow him to move back to Charles City to raise his family.

After a few years as a business partner, he knew something was missing in his life, and wanted to return to his passion of working with people. He learned of an opening in the Sheriff’s Office, and knew he could make a difference in law enforcement.

he applied for the position, and was subsequently hired in 2004. In 2005, he attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and was nominated by his class to be their class president. After graduation, he worked his way from third shift to second shift, and eventually to investigator. He was promoted to chief deputy in 2013.

I have full confidence that Chief Deputy Crooks will continue to move the Sheriff’s Office in the right direction, improving in the areas that need to be improved upon, and that the citizens will see the success that I have seen over the years. Crooks in the right person for Floyd County!
