PREP WRESTLING: NASHUA-PLAINFIELD AND NORTH BUTLER N-P grapples at home; Bearcats sweep at Clarksville; CC heads to New Hampton

As winter weather arrives, so do the wrestling meets

Snow on the ground means many things — like it’s time to get new tires on your sedan — but one thing is for sure: Wrestling is back.

Tuesday night featured a plethora of meets, duals and quads across the state. Nashua-Plainfield hosted a quad, joined by Oelwein, Postville and Waukon.

The N-P Huskies pulled out a few individual wins, but fell 0-3 overall in the quad.

Mathew Stille was undefeated through three matches Tuesday night for the N-P Huskies. So was Nathan Dettmer, who also earned a major decision (12-0) in his match with Oelwein’s Alexander Hepperle.

Over in Clarksville, the Bearcats had no problem with their competition, landing three wins against BCLUW, Clarksville and Turkey Valley.

No. 3 (152-pounds) Dalton Nelson started his season with a 3-0 sweep of his competition Tuesday night.

Overall, the Bearcats edged out BCLUW 42-40 in team points, 42-37 against Clarksville and a solid victory against Turkey Valley, 74-6.

A 195-pound class forfeit was the only loss for the Bearcats.

Charles City won it’s lone match of the evening; a bout with Columbus Catholic at New Hampton.

The Comets’ 39-33 victory against Columbus Catholic was the first of the year and featured a couple of ranked wrestlers from Charles City.

In 195-pound action, No. 3 ranked Nick Jacobs fell to Columbus Catholic’s Jacob Haag (a 8-3 dec.).

In 145-pound action, No. 5 Max Forsyth won in a forfeit. AJ Maloy, ranked No. 8 in class 220-pounds, won against Dana Bosen in a fall (0:57).

Up next for the Huskies is another home meet on Dec. 3. The Bearcats will see the Huskies at that same meet.

That meet starts at 5:30 p.m. at Nashua-Plainfield High School. The Comets will test the waters at Cedar Falls on Dec. 5 at a weekend tournament starting at 10 a.m.
